When should babies start using the Baby Hammock and how long can they sleep in it?

We suggest using your hammock from birth until 8 months. After which, the hammock can be transformed into the chair swing option. This is done by lowering your hammock closer to the ground with Lunalay chain extensions and using the adjustment straps to raise up the back. Your hammock can then be used until 7 years of age.

 

Until about how old can a baby sleep in the Hammock?

Children can continue napping in their hammock for years, The greatest part of the Lunalay Hammock is that is can be used from infancy until they are seven years old. Although, once your baby is able to sit up (which is typically around 5 months) the hammock must be lowered closer to the ground with Lunalay Extension chains.

 

Is the Hammock appropriate for night sleeping. Do you know if this suits the bill? Do you recommend it for night sleeping or just for napping and swinging?

We recommend using your hammock for napping, as they are a comfortable and safe place for baby while you are close by. They are very helpful in soothing your baby. Lunalay Hammocks are created for the most stability and safety, featuring a two-chain system, for a no-tilt hammock. We don’t recommend leaving your baby in their hammock all night in another room. Once they outgrow the hammock for sleeping, it can be used as a chair swing for years of fun!

 

Is the futon organic cotton and non-fire proof? Does the futon mattress contain flame retardant chemicals?

Lunalay Hammocks are not treated with any fire-retardant chemicals. Our futon mattress cover and filling are made from un-dyed 100% cotton. Each sleep swing comes with a 100% organic cotton sheet.

 

Is the Hammock suitable for a toddler to sleep in? Instead of a crib or toddler bed?

Although their hammock can still be used for naps, we do not recommend them to replace a toddler bed. Toddlers love their Lunalay Hammocks and will thoroughly enjoy swinging and napping in them for years.

 

How big is the Lunalay mattress?

Our 100% cotton mattress dimensions are 38” long and 18” wide.

 

Could you include additional longer chain?

Yes, we offer chain extensions by the foot. This is great for high ceilings.

 

Can I purchase an extra set of swing hooks to put in another room of my house?

Yes, we sell extra swing hook kits which can be hung in multiple places. This is very useful if you want to be able to hang the hammock in different spaces throughout your home.

 

Can it be hung from one mounting point?

For the most stability we suggest hanging the hammock from two mounting points during infancy. Once they are a little older it is perfectly safe to use one hook from the ceiling.

  

Is it alright for my baby to be sleeping on his back for a long time?

Lunalay Hammocks have a great sleeping surface for an infant. They cradle your baby gently allowing your baby’s spine to follow its’ natural curve. They also have the added benefit of protecting your baby’s head from Plagiocephaly or Flat Head Syndrome. This allows for the baby to be able to sleep in their hammock as long as needed without any worries of the infant’s development.
